London City Airport celebrates first long-haul flight
30/09/2009
London City Airport has marked the historic event of its first long-haul flight from the city to New York.
The new service will fly twice daily on an Airbus A318 plane linking the world's two biggest financial centres for business passengers.
Customers flying on the new service will also be the first to be able to use their mobile phones and the internet for in-flight communication via the OnAir service.
Richard Gooding, chief executive of London City Airport, said: "Providing long-haul services for the first time out of London City is a major milestone in the history of the airport.
"New York is the most demanded destination not currently served from London City."
For increased convenience, passengers will also be permitted to check-in to their flight from London City up to 15 minutes before departure.
Australian airline Qantas has also has expanded its programme of fly-cruise options for departure dates up to mid-2010.
